Precautions and FAQs
● If the load current is 10A, a heat sink must be equipped; if the load current is 40A or more, an air-cooled radiator or a water-cooled radiator must be installed.
● When the load is an inductive load, be sure to connect a varistor in parallel with the output terminal, whose voltage value is 1.6-1.9 times the load voltage.
● What are the differences between Panel mount SSR and PCB mount SSR?
The panel type solid state relay (or device type, screw mounting type) needs to be fixed on a metal base plate or a heat sink, and is cooled by a heat sink or an air-cooled radiator. The PCB solid state relay (or pin mounting type) has the industry standard pin configurations, and can be mounted directly to the Printed Circuit Board, and the natural cooling as heat dissipation without the need for a heat sink. The PCB type has a smaller mounting size and a larger power density than the panel type.
● What is the difference between a Standard Package SSR (TRIAC output) and an Industrial Package SSR (anti-parallel SCR output)?
For resistive AC loads, the difference between the two is small. Standard Package can use up to M5 screws, while Industrial Package can use up to M8 screws.
For inductive or capacitive AC loads, when the solid state relay is turned off in the on state, a large voltage-rise rate dv/dt (commutation dv/dt) will occur due to the inconsistent phase of the current and voltage. Such dv/dt affects the output efficiency of TRIAC, or even damages TRIAC, but the effect of commutation dv/dt on anti-parallel SCR is very small. Therefore, for AC loads with large inductance or capacitance, it is more suitable to choose industrial solid state relays.
● What is the difference between Zero Cross Switching and Random Fire Switching?
According to the trigger timing, the trigger mode of the solid state relay can be divided into Zero Cross Switching (or Zero-crossing Turn-on) and Random Fire Switching (or Random Turn-on). When the Zero Crossing Turn-on SSR receives the control signal, it will switch the load after the load voltage passes the zero-crossing point (which is not a voltage point but actually a voltage zone, about ±15V), which helps to reduce EMI, RFI and the impulse current; Random Turn on SSR will switches the load immediately (in few milliseconds) as soon as it receives the control signal, so it is more suitable for applications with higher delay requirements. All Regular Models We Offer
